Obituary

A formal remembrance

Colon Kelly Hunt, born August 28, 1956, was a lifelong presence in Red Springs, North Carolina, whose family remembered him for the steady, familiar care he showed those around him. Son of the late Troy Jr. Hunt and Dorothy Oxendine Hunt, Colon was known within his circle as a devoted brother, uncle, stepfather, and friend. He is remembered by three sisters — Carolyn Hunt, Patricia A. Locklear, and Phyllis Knight — as well as a stepdaughter, Alice Knight, and a wide circle of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and many friends who counted on his quiet support.

Those closest to Colon recall simple, everyday gestures that made him who he was: the dependable presence at family gatherings, the ties he kept to his community in Robeson County, and the relationships that endured across generations. Though public records keep only certain facts, the funeral notice and services arranged by his family speak to how much he mattered to those who knew him.

Colon passed from this life on September 11, 2020, at Southeastern Medical Center in Lumberton, North Carolina. The family honored his memory with visitation and a funeral service held at Heritage Funeral Home in Red Springs on September 16, 2020, providing a time for relatives and friends to share memories and offer comfort.

In place of long lists of accomplishments, those who gathered to remember Colon celebrated the role he played in the daily fabric of family life. His survivors carry forward the quiet legacy of care he left behind: a network of relatives and friends who will continue to recall his steady kindness. The family invited those who wished to pay respects to share condolences and floral tributes through the funeral home.

Colon’s life was one of family ties and community connections. Though mourned deeply, his memory endures in the stories and small acts of care his loved ones continue to pass along.
