Obituary

A formal remembrance

Christopher Nicholas Yancey was born on March 5, 2003, in Baltimore City and carried a bright, outgoing spirit through every stage of his short life. A strong student in his early years, Chris earned straight A's at Collington Square Elementary/Middle and later graduated from Mervo High School, where basketball became one of his great loves. On the court he learned teamwork and leadership—qualities his family says he brought into his everyday life.

Chris treasured time with family and friends. He loved spending afternoons with his daughter, Nayture, and he was known for being outspoken, fiercely loyal, and ready to protect those he loved. Those closest to him remember a young man who celebrated life fully, who enjoyed social moments with friends, and who balanced good humor with deep devotion to his siblings and relatives.

Despite health challenges, including a heart condition, Chris pursued his goals with determination. He hoped to build businesses that could support his daughter and siblings; family members remembered his plans and ambition to provide a stable future for those he cared about most. He is survived by his mother Anita Jones; sister Tykiara and a large circle of siblings, nieces, nephews, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many cherished friends.

Those who knew him describe Chris as brilliant, outspoken, and caring—someone who showed up for family and who held close the memories he made with others. His life was celebrated at services in early April 2024. In honoring Christopher’s memory, his family and friends remember the laughter, the leadership on the basketball court, and the fierce love he showed to his daughter and family. He is missed by many who were warmed by his presence and by the plans he hoped one day to realize.
