Christopher Matlosz

Christopher Anthony Matlosz, 27, of Manchester Township and a beloved member of the Lakewood Police Department, is remembered for his warm smile, quick humor, and deep commitment to serving his community. A graduate of Howell High School (Class of 2000) and holder of an associate degree in Criminal Justice from Brookdale Community College, Christopher pursued a life of public service. He graduated from the 69th Class of the Monmouth County Police Academy and served with dedication on several local departments before joining Lakewood Township Police in August 2006.

Born in Elizabeth, Christopher lived in Rahway, Howell, and Lakewood before making his home in Manchester in 2008, where he and his fiancée planned their future together. Those who knew him remember his generous spirit, playful sense of humor, and readiness to lift others’ spirits — qualities that endeared him to family, friends, and the large community of fellow officers who considered him one of their own.

Christopher is survived by his mother, Jane Caliao; his fiancée, Kelly Walsifer; his brother Adam Matlosz; and extended family members who loved him. He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony “Buddy” Matlosz, and grandparents Anthony P. Matlosz and Hermine Matlosz. He also leaves behind two cherished dogs, Stosh and Apollo.

Funeral services were held with broad community support, reflecting the many lives Christopher touched through his work and friendships. In lieu of flowers, his family asked that donations be made in his memory to the Jersey Shore Animal Shelter, honoring his love for animals.

Christopher’s life was defined by service, loyalty, and an infectious joy that brightened ordinary days. He is remembered not only for the uniform he wore but for the kindness and humor he shared with those around him. His memory endures in the hearts of his loved ones and the many colleagues who continue to honor his service.
