Obituary
A formal remembrance
Chester “CJ” Gaston Jr. (March 11, 1976 – November 7, 2022) was a man whose quick smile and generous heart left a lasting impression on those fortunate to know him. A native of Bloomfield and later of West Hartford, CJ worked as a contractor, building and repairing with the kind of steady care that reflected his practical spirit.
From an early age CJ found joy in creating — whether assembling model cars and robots or listening to his favorite rap music. He carried that maker’s curiosity through life, bringing a calm, thoughtful presence to his work and a ready sense of humor to family gatherings. Those who knew him often remembered his laugh and the way his smile could brighten a room.
Family was central to CJ’s life. He was the son of Charlotte Gaston and the late Chester Gaston Sr., and he is survived by sisters and other close relatives who treasured his warmth and loyalty. CJ was known to be loving toward nieces, nephews, aunts, and a wide circle of cousins and friends who remain grateful for the moments they shared with him.
A celebration of CJ’s life was held at Henry L. Fuqua Funeral Service in Bloomfield, where family and friends gathered to honor his memory and the simple, meaningful ways he touched others’ lives.
Though his life ended far too soon, CJ’s kindness, sense of humor, and devotion to family endure in the memories of those who loved him. He will be remembered for the care he took in his work, the small creations that delighted him, and the generous spirit he offered to family and friends.
