Chester Gaston

Chester “CJ” Gaston Jr., 46, of West Hartford, Connecticut, passed away on November 7, 2022. A native of Bloomfield, CJ was known by family and friends for his ready laugh, generous heart, and steady hands.

As a young person he delighted in building model cars and robots, a pastime that reflected both his curiosity and practical skill. Music—especially rap—was a lasting pleasure in his life, and those who knew him remember how a favorite song could brighten his day and bring people together. CJ worked as a contractor, where his craftsmanship and work ethic were evident to colleagues and clients alike.

Family was central to CJ’s life. He was the son of the late Chester Gaston Sr. and Charlotte (Cohens) Gaston, and he is survived by his mother, sisters and brothers, aunts, great-aunts, nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends who loved him. He carried a knack for making people smile and was often remembered for both his humor and his readiness to help when family needed him.

Those who loved CJ describe him as having a heart of gold: someone who gave freely of his time and who valued his relationships above all. His presence—marked by a warm grin and an affectionate nickname—left an imprint on those around him.
