Obituary

A formal remembrance

Charles LeRoy Foster, born April 16, 1962, was a devoted father and proud grandfather whose friendly humor and fondness for moped rides made him a familiar presence in his Spartanburg neighborhood. A lifelong member of Harrison Grove Baptist Church in Roebuck, Charles valued community and family ties above all. He attended Spartanburg High School and spent years working locally, including positions at Inman Mills (Saybrook Plant), Asheville Highway Rental and Adidas, where coworkers remember his easy laugh and the stories he would bring to work.

Charles is survived by five children and a large extended family, including many grandchildren who brought him great joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Jesse Lee Hillstock Foster, and by grandparents Sam and Louise Hillstock and Charlie and Pearl Foster. He is remembered by siblings, aunts, uncles and many nieces, nephews and friends who cherish their memories of him.

Services celebrating Charles’s life were held in Spartanburg in January 2021, and he was laid to rest in the Harrison Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Family and friends recall a man who loved to make others smile, who treasured family gatherings, and who found simple pleasures in everyday moments. Though his passing on January 15, 2021 was untimely, the warmth he shared with those around him endures in the stories and memories held by those who loved him.
