Remembering Charles
A life held close in memory
Charles Alexander Garza, age 6, was born December 5, 2014, in Fairhope, Alabama, and passed away July 24, 2021, at North Mississippi Medical Center–Gilmore in Amory, Mississippi. In his brief life Charles radiated the lively curiosity and boundless energy of childhood. He had just completed kindergarten at West Amory Elementary School and delighted in simple pleasures: playing Roblox, teasing his sisters with good-natured mischief, and spending time at the fire station with his father.
Charles’s fascination with firefighters and emergency vehicles was a special part of who he was. He loved climbing on the trucks and ambulances and enjoyed being around the people who cared for his community. The local firefighters welcomed him warmly and treated him like one of their own, a bond that spoke to his easygoing spirit and the affection he inspired in others.
Beloved son of Justin and Alicia Jenkins Garza, Charles was a devoted big brother to Matthew and an affectionate playmate to his sisters. He is remembered by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends whose lives he touched with his infectious smile and playful presence. The many people who loved Charles remember a child who loved to laugh, to explore, and to make ordinary moments joyful.
A funeral service was held on July 29, 2021, at Cleveland‑Moffett Funeral Home in Amory. The community’s response — including the support of the Amory fire personnel who served as pallbearers — reflected how deeply Charles had been welcomed and treasured by those around him.
Though his life was far too short, Charles’s warmth and enthusiasm left an impression on all who knew him. He is remembered not for how he died but for the light he brought to family, friends, and the Amory community. Those who wish to honor his memory continue to hold his family in their thoughts and prayers.
