Obituary
A formal remembrance
Celina Nell Flores, 32, of Edinburg, Texas, was a dedicated public servant and a beloved member of her community. Born in McAllen and raised in Edinburg, Celina was known for her steady commitment to others — from her early days at Edinburg High School, where she participated in school life as a Red and Blue Sergeanette and played the saxophone, to her later years serving the people of Hidalgo County.
After graduating high school in 2002, Celina continued to invest in her community. In 2012 she began her career in law enforcement as a dispatcher with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. Her professionalism and dedication led her to graduate from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Academy and to serve as a Deputy Sheriff. She later advanced to Senior Deputy Sheriff and took on responsibilities as the department’s Public Information Officer, roles that reflected both her competence and her desire to help others.
Celina was active beyond her work; she had been involved with local organizations including the Texas Municipal Police Association and Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers, and she carried her faith and community ties into everyday life. Family was central to her — she is remembered by her parents, David and Nellie R. Flores, her two sisters, and her nieces, along with many friends and colleagues whose lives she touched.
Her funeral service was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg, followed by interment at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr. Celina was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Jose and Eliza Flores, and her maternal grandfather, Zaragoza Rodriguez.
Celina’s life was marked by service, music, and devotion to family and community. Those who knew her remember a woman who brought dedication and a caring presence to her work and to the people around her.
