A formal remembrance
Carl Ray Fleming Sr., age 30, of New Orleans, departed this life on March 22, 2010. A beloved son to Catherine Ann Fleming and Carl Johnson Fleming, Carl was a proud father to Carl Ray Fleming Jr. and Carliah R. Fleming and a devoted partner to Tameka Allen. He was known to family and friends for his infectious smile, his sense of humor and the easy way he connected with people. Carl is remembered by siblings Yahouna Fleming, Tina Fleming, Kameka Lott, Kenyatta Shorty, Johnathan Morris and Sherman Morris, and he leaves a wide circle of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins who cherished him.
Friends and family celebrated Carl’s life at services held at Davis Mortuary Service in Gretna, with interment at McDonoghville Cemetery. Messages shared by those who mourned him recall good times spent together, his presence at neighborhood gatherings and the small, everyday ways he brightened the lives of those around him. Condolences and memories left by classmates and longtime friends speak to a generosity of spirit and a readiness to laugh with others.
Though his life was far too short, Carl’s role as a father and the love he shared with his family remain enduring. He is survived by the children he treasured and by a community that remembers him with affection. May his memory continue to bring comfort to those who loved him and may his children grow knowing the care their father gave them.
