Remembering Carl
A life held close in memory
Carl Laverne Albin, born September 21, 1935 in Becker County, Minnesota, lived a life shaped by the rhythms of farm work, community, and steady friendships. Raised by Benjamin and Lydia (Wilson) Albin and educated first at District 42 N Country School and later in Sebeka, Carl learned early the values of hard work and neighborliness that guided him through his years.
Carl spent his working life on the family farm south of Menahga, a place he loved and where he took pride in the daily tasks of farming. After retiring, he moved into Menahga but kept the habits and interests of his rural life — talking about cars and tractors with friends, attending auctions and garage sales, and enjoying simple pleasures like buffets, pie, and coffee outings with his close companion, Olga Wilkowski.
Known in the community for his easygoing presence and for welcoming conversation at his home, Carl valued visits from neighbors and took pleasure in everyday social routines that connected him to others. His family remembers him as a devoted son who carried on the farm traditions of his parents and later enjoyed the company of friends around town.
He is survived by his brother, Curtis Hyink of Washington, and his sister, Kay Mattson of Michigan, as well as cousins who remember him fondly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Lydia Albin, and by his special friend Olga Wilkowski. Carl’s life reflected steady devotion to the land and to the small, meaningful moments of community life he cherished.
