Obituary

A formal remembrance

Calveon Darques Nichols was born February 17, 2004, and brought warmth and light to those around him throughout his short life. Known to many as “Cal” or “Cal Cal,” he carried an easy smile and a joyful spirit that made a lasting impression on classmates, neighbors, and teachers. His energy and presence were particularly felt at La Vega High School, where friends remember him for the laughter he shared and the kindness he showed.

Calveon was cherished by his family, who gathered with the community to honor his life at Edwards Chapel AME Church in Waco. Those who knew him recall the small moments that revealed his character — a friendly greeting in the hallway, a quick joke that brightened someone’s day, and a warmth that made others feel seen. These memories reflect a young person whose everyday kindness left an imprint on those around him.

Family, friends, and community members celebrated Calveon’s life at a visitation and a service held in his memory. In the weeks since his passing, tributes and condolences have expressed the love people felt for him and the pain of a life taken too soon. While his family and loved ones continue to grieve, they also hold close the many small, meaningful memories that define who Calveon was: a son, sibling, student, and friend whose smile and joyful personality will be remembered.

Calveon’s life, though brief, mattered deeply to those who knew him. He is remembered with love for the warmth he shared and the light he brought into ordinary days. Those who wish to honor his memory have been encouraged to share remembrances and support his family in the ways they have requested.
