Obituary

A formal remembrance

Bryan Michael MacFarlane, 41, of South China, Maine, brought a steady, warm presence to those who knew him. Born December 31, 1981, in Slidell, Louisiana, Bryan grew up in the Greater Portland area and graduated from the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf. He lived and traveled widely — including time in Vermont, Ohio and North Carolina — before returning to Maine in the summer of 2023 to be nearer family and community. He loved being outdoors: riding his motorcycle, camping in his trailer, snowmobiling and fishing. Bryan also enjoyed RC racing, once taking first place, and found simple joy in routine gatherings with friends. He was especially attached to his shih tzu, M&M, who often rode with him while he worked on the road.Bryan was proud of his professional accomplishments. He worked for several years as a commercial truck driver and celebrated a major personal milestone when he earned his commercial driver's license — a notable achievement that stood out in his family’s memories and in the records of the Deaf community.Bryan is remembered by his mother, Janette Randazzo (nee Forbes) and stepfather Richard Randazzo of Lewiston; his sister Keri Brooks and her children; and by extended family and many friends who shared his love of outdoors life and community. He was predeceased by his father, William “Bill” MacFarlane.A celebration of Bryan’s life was arranged by Funeral Alternatives in Lewiston, where family and friends gathered to honor his warmth, resilience and the steady companionship he offered to those around him. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made toward a trade school scholarship for Deaf students to help create opportunities in Bryan’s memory. Bryan’s quiet enthusiasm for everyday pleasures and his devotion to friends and family leave an enduring impression on all who knew him.
