Remembering Austen

A life held close in memory

Austen James Wright (June 23, 1994 – August 13, 2018) was a beloved son and father whose life was rooted in Wichita. Known to family and friends for his close bonds with relatives, Austen is remembered first and foremost as the father of his son, Austen James Wright, Jr., and as a devoted member of a caring family that includes his father, James Wright, and siblings.

Those who knew Austen remember a man whose connections to family were central to his life. He grew up in Wichita and maintained strong ties to his community. In the days following his passing, friends and family gathered to celebrate his life at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, honoring the affection he inspired and the place he held in the lives of those closest to him.

Austen is survived by his son, Austen James Wright, Jr.; his father, James Wright; sisters Talia Wright and Tylisa Colvin; brothers Branden Bell, Mack W. Colvin, Jr., and Tyler Wright; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who carry his memory forward.

While the loss of Austen at a young age was deeply felt by his family and community, the ceremonies held in his honor reflected the love and respect his family continues to hold. Those who knew him recall the small but meaningful ways he showed care for others, and his memory lives on in the family members and friends who continue to speak of him and gather in remembrance.

Austen’s family invited those who knew him to celebrate his life and to support one another in the months after his passing. He is remembered with affection by those who loved him, and his son and family remain at the center of that remembrance.

May the memory of Austen be a lasting source of comfort. A life matters far beyond what can ever be captured on a page, and this remembrance is offered with sympathy and respect.
