Remembering Ashlee
A life held close in memory
Ashlee Hannah Harvey, 38, of Coburntown (Hancock), passed away unexpectedly on January 24, 2022. Born June 9, 1983, in Hancock, Ashlee grew up in the local community and carried a deep love for nature and family throughout her life. She graduated from Lake Linden High School with the Class of 2002 and pursued further study at Finlandia University and Gogebic Community College, where she earned her Certified Nursing Assistant certificate.
Ashlee found joy and meaning in simple, hands-on pleasures: tending her garden and canning the harvest, capturing the world through her camera lens, and spending time outdoors in places like Copper Harbor where she camped, biked, rock-picked, and snowshoed. She cared for animals, enjoyed seasonal work with home-grown vegetables, and delighted in photographing family and the natural world around her.
Her greatest love was her family. Ashlee is remembered as someone who was often smiling or laughing and who cherished her children: Isaiah, Nathan, and Sophie Strieter. She is also survived by her mother, Ruth Richard; brother, Clayton Harvey; her long-time partner and the father of her children, Neil Strieter; and extended family including the children’s grandmother, Gloria Strieter, along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, David Harvey, Sr., her sisters Gina and Jennifer Belopavlovich, and her grandparents.
A private memorial was planned by the family, and Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service of Hancock assisted with arrangements. Those who knew Ashlee recall her warmth, her quiet delight in outdoor pursuits, and the attention she gave to preserving simple, meaningful moments—whether in a jar of home-canned vegetables or a photograph framed on a wall. Her community and family remember her as a loving mother whose presence brought light and gentleness to everyday life.
