Remembering Antonio
A life held close in memory
Antonio Jima “Jima” Turner (b. November 6, 1983) was a beloved son, father, brother and friend from Wilson, North Carolina. Raised in Wilson County and a graduate of Ralph L. Fike High School, Jima built a life around his family and steady, practical work. He spent his career doing landscaping and a variety of hands-on jobs, earning appreciation for his reliability and willingness to help those close to him.
Jima is remembered most by his children, Sha’kheira Reddick Turner and Destiny Reddick, who survive him along with his father, Calvin Eugene Atkinson; siblings; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who cherished his presence. Family members recall his easygoing nature, the quiet pride he took in providing for his loved ones, and the small kindnesses he offered in everyday life.
A service to honor his life was held at Stevens Funeral Home in Wilson, with a public visitation the evening before the service. The family expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, prayers, cards and acts of kindness received during their time of bereavement, and asked that memories of Jima be kept alive by sharing the good times and the laughter they shared with him.
Though his life was cut short on February 9, 2024, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville, Antonio Turner’s memory endures in the people he loved and the neighborhood where he lived. Those who knew him remember a man whose quiet care and steady presence mattered deeply to family and friends. He will be remembered for his devotion to his daughters and the everyday ways he showed up for those around him.
