Obituary
A formal remembrance
Antoine Baptiste Jones, Jr., age 16, is remembered for the warmth and energy he brought to family, school and play. Born in Dayton, Ohio on August 19, 1999, Antoine attended Centerville area schools in his early years before enrolling at Kettering‑Fairmont High School. Those who knew him recall a young man with a quick sense of humor, a caring spirit, and a determined, headstrong drive to accomplish what he set out to do.
Antoine played youth football with the Centerville Wee Elks and the Wee Vikes and enjoyed recreation basketball, where teammates and friends came to know him as an enthusiastic teammate who loved the game. In the classroom he excelled, and teachers and family saw in him a bright future full of potential.
He was the son of Hope Williams and Antoine “Bap” Jones Sr., and is survived by his mother and stepfather, brothers Xavien and Hodges, sisters Antrea and Ziah, his father and stepmother, and other loving family members, including grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. The outpouring of condolences and memories left by friends, classmates and community members reflects how widely he was cared for and how deeply he is missed.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (Kettering Chapel). Visitation and a funeral service were held in February 2016 at Apex Community Church, followed by interment at Evergreen Cemetery. In place of flowers, the family accepted donations to help with funeral arrangements and memorial efforts.
Antoine’s family and friends remember him as outgoing, funny and caring — a young man whose bright presence touched many. Though his life was far too brief, those who loved him carry forward the stories and small moments that made him who he was.
