Remembering Andrew

A life held close in memory

Andrew “Andy” Reuel Sims (known to many as Andy or Tattoo Drew) brought art and warmth into the lives of those who knew him. A native of Point Clear, Alabama, Andy discovered his love of drawing at an early age and earned a full art scholarship to Fairhope High School. As a self-taught tattoo artist and entrepreneur, he was admired for his skill, imagination, and dedication to his craft, building friendships through his work at local shops including Brother’s Ink.

Andy cherished his family above all. He was a loving husband to Ericka Page Sims and a devoted father to their children, Christian Page, Amiya Sims, and Kamron Sims. Family gatherings, close friendships, and community ties were important parts of his life; he is remembered by his mother Amy Sims (and Amy Boyd), his grandmother Bobbie Durgin Holliman, siblings, and a wide circle of relatives and friends who celebrated his humor, talent, and gentle spirit.

Throughout his life Andy won recognition for his artwork in local contests and had pieces published in area art books, milestones that reflected both his natural ability and his commitment to grow as an artist. Those who sat with him for a tattoo often remembered not just the design he inked, but the care with which he listened and the pride he took in making something meaningful for another person.

Friends and family recall Andy for his creativity, his steady devotion to his loved ones, and the small kindnesses he offered in everyday life. His funeral arrangements brought together the communities of Fairhope and Mobile to honor a life cut far too short. While his passing on August 14, 2021, left a deep sorrow, his art, the memories he made with his family, and the relationships he nurtured remain lasting parts of the legacy he leaves behind.
