Obituary
A formal remembrance
Andre Jerome Gaston Jr., 24, of Hartford, passed away unexpectedly on October 5, 2022. Born in Hartford on October 22, 1997, Andre was a devoted son and loving brother whose easy smile and sense of humor were constants to family and friends. He is remembered by his mother, Deborah D. (Bland-Hatten) Gaston, and his father, Andre J. Gaston Sr., and by siblings and extended family who cherished his presence in their lives.
Those who knew Andre recall a humble, outgoing young man who often had a joke to share and a way of lightening the room. He loved being with family and close friends; his warmth and playful spirit made him someone people turned to for laughter and companionship. While his life was taken far too soon, the kindness he showed to those around him and the memories he created with loved ones endure.
Andre is survived by his brother, Dwayne A. Bland Sr.; sisters Tasha Oliver, Kenika Shumate, Chante Holmes, and Tahara Holmes; grandparents Elmer Montgomery, Ruthie Belle Hatten, and Carolyn Montgomery; and a host of other relatives and friends who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Robert E. Hatten Sr., and other family members who went before him.
Family and friends gathered to celebrate Andre’s life. Visitation was held at The Lodge Community Chapel in Windsor on October 27, 2022, followed by a Celebration of Life. In honoring Andre, his family asked that remembrances reflect the joy and love he shared in everyday moments—his jokes, his laughter, and his devotion to those nearest him.
Though his time was brief, Andre’s presence left a lasting impression on family and community. He is remembered with love and affection by those who knew him.
