Remembering Anako

A life held close in memory

Anako “Annette” Lumumba was a devoted mother and a compassionate nurse whose care and quiet strength touched many in her community. Those who knew her remember a woman committed to her family and to helping others through her work in nursing.

Born and raised with a spirit of service, Anako pursued a career in nursing and balanced that work with the responsibilities and deep love she held for her two children. Friends and colleagues recalled her determination to better herself professionally and her gentle, steady presence with patients and neighbors alike.

Anako passed away on May 3, 2018, in South Burlington. In the weeks that followed, family and friends gathered to honor her life. Calling hours were held at LaVigne Funeral Home in Winooski, followed by a Catholic Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and burial at St. Francis Cemetery, where loved ones celebrated her memory and the care she gave to others.

Her family and community have remembered Anako for her warmth, her resilience, and the everyday ways she supported those around her. Though details of her life were shared publicly amid tragic circumstances, those who cherish her memory emphasize the roles that defined her identity: mother, nurse, and neighbor.

To honor Anako’s life, many offered condolences, memories, and contributions in support of her family. Those who loved her continue to carry forward the kindness and dedication she showed in life, keeping her memory alive through the children she raised and the lives she touched.

Anako’s story is a reminder of the ordinary courage of people who care for others each day. She is remembered with love and respect by her family, friends, and community.
