Remembering Amy

A life held close in memory

Amy Elizabeth (Burns) Moore, 48, of Normal, Illinois, will be remembered for the warmth, joy, and steady kindness she brought to her family, her classroom, and her community. A beloved mother to Anderson, Beckett, and Crew, Amy poured love and patience into raising her boys; her bright smile and spirit of joy were cornerstones of their home. She was also a devoted daughter to Tom and Libby Burns and a sister, aunt, and friend whose close-knit family and longtime friendships shaped a life centered on faith, learning, and the simple pleasures of sports and family gatherings.

For nearly two decades, Amy welcomed young learners each day as a second-grade teacher at Grove Elementary School in Normal. Colleagues and former students remember her as patient, encouraging, and deeply committed to the children in her care. Her classroom was a place where curiosity and kindness could flourish — a reflection of the values she carried from her own upbringing and the community that supported her. Those who knew her speak of birthday parties, playground games, and the small, lasting ways she helped others grow.

Amy’s family invited the community to honor her memory with visitation on June 7 and a funeral service on June 8 at Eastview Church in Normal. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested donations to causes meaningful to Amy, including the Eastview Church Youth Ministry, the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, and the Unit 5 Educational Foundation. A GoFundMe set up to support her three sons quickly drew an outpouring of local support, reflecting the deep affection many felt for Amy and her dedication to family and students.

Those who loved Amy remember her for a generous heart, a welcoming smile, and a life lived in service to others. Her presence in the classroom, on the sidelines, and at family gatherings left a quiet but lasting imprint on many lives. She will be held in the hearts of her sons, her parents, siblings, extended family, colleagues, and the many students whose early years she helped shape.
