A formal remembrance
Alexander Logan “Alex” Schachter (July 9, 2003 – February 14, 2018) was a bright and tender-hearted young musician who loved playing trombone and baritone in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Eagle Regiment. A freshman who had lived in Parkland for eight years, Alex found joy in music and in the camaraderie of his bandmates — places where his quiet kindness and easy smile were especially felt.
Family and friends remember Alex for his sweet nature and his enthusiasm for performing with the marching band and school orchestra. Teachers and fellow musicians noted his musical promise; his band director observed that Alex had a bright future on the trombone. Music was a meaningful part of his days — a way he connected with others and shared his gentle presence.
Alex is survived by his parents, his three siblings, grandparents, and an extended family of cousins, aunts and uncles who treasured him. In the weeks after his passing, his family and community honored his memory by establishing a scholarship to help other students experience the joys of music and to support efforts to increase school safety — gestures meant to carry forward the things Alex loved.
Though his time was far too short, Alex’s life left a lasting impression on those who knew him: a young musician whose talent and kindness mattered to his friends, his band, and his family. His memory continues in the music he loved and in the lives he touched.
