Remembering Alex
A life held close in memory
Alex Hamzy, a Bristol native known for his warm smile and steady devotion to family and community, died October 12, 2022. Born December 16, 1987, Alex grew up in Bristol and graduated from Bristol Eastern High School. He found great pride and purpose in serving his hometown: Alex joined the Bristol Police Department in 2014 and spent eight years as a dedicated officer. He was selected in 2021 to serve with the Central Regional Emergency Response Team (CR-ERT), a role he counted among the highlights of his career.
At home, Alex was cherished as a loving husband to Katie (Scott) Hamzy and a devoted son to Ahmad and Salma Hamzy. He was close with his sisters Donna and Rania and delighted in the company of his nephews. Family and longtime friends were central to Alex’s life; he treasured gatherings with those he called his brothers from childhood and the many bonds he formed in law enforcement. He also took great joy in smaller pleasures — cars (especially BMW M-Series), fitness, sweets, and cheering for the Yankees and the Patriots.
Alex invested in the next generation, serving for years as an advisor to the Bristol Police Explorer Cadet Program where he helped young people learn about policing through instruction and hands-on experiences. He loved teaching and mentoring, and those who worked with him remembered his commitment, good humor, and the way he lifted others.
In recognition of his service and sacrifice, Alex was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant. His family established the Officer Alex Hamzy Memorial Fund to honor his memory and support causes dear to them. He will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and the steady, generous presence he brought to family, friends, and the Bristol community.
