Obituary
A formal remembrance
Alan Scott Johnson was born March 3, 1957, in Longview, Washington, and raised in Union, Oregon. A graduate of Union High School (class of 1975), Alan was active in athletics and agricultural programs in his youth, and he went on to study at Blue Mountain Community College where he played baseball and earned an associate degree in Business/Agriculture in 1977.
Alan settled in the Sun Valley area and built a life rooted in family, hard work, and outdoor pursuits. Throughout his career he worked in construction and landscaping, rising to lead the construction and paver department at Webb Landscape, Inc., and serving on the company’s board. Those who worked with Alan remembered him for his attention to detail, steady work ethic, and an easy smile that made him ready to lend a hand or share a friendly conversation.
He married Diana Dishman on April 23, 1983, and together they made their home in the Sun Valley/Bellevue area, raising two children, Matthew and Sarah. Alan’s love of the outdoors was a central part of his life — whether supporting his children at their games, walking his dog Sage, hunting waterfowl, or competing in trapshooting events. An avid and talented trap shooter, Alan won numerous awards and was an active member of the Shoshone Indian Trap Club, Blaine County Gun Club and the Wood River Gun Club.
A member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Hailey, Alan was known in the community for being dependable and kind — someone who could be counted on and who brightened a room with his smile. He is survived by his son Matthew, daughter Sarah, parents, siblings, and many nieces and nephews and friends who treasured his company.
Alan died on September 2, 2003, surrounded by the love of family and community that he had fostered throughout his life. His family requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alan and Diana Johnson Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor their legacy and support young people in the community they cherished.
