Obituary
A formal remembrance
Alan “A.J.” Scott Hoover Jr. (May 4, 1998 – January 7, 2015) brought warmth and energy to everyone who knew him. A.J.’s infectious laugh and broad smile were a hallmark of his presence — small gestures that made people around him feel lighter. Born in Phoenix and raised for a time in Houston, Missouri, he returned to Arizona as a teenager and quickly made friends who remember his kindness and competitive spirit.
A.J. loved being outdoors and playing sports. Whether on the basketball court, baseball field, hiking trails, or trying new activities like skateboarding and boxing, he threw himself into life with enthusiasm. His family said he was competitive from a young age but always caring — the youngest with four older sisters, a son and brother who would readily help others.
He had plans to finish high school and hoped to join the military so he could see the world. Those ambitions reflected his curiosity and quiet determination; people who knew him believed he would have found success in whatever path he chose. A.J. is remembered by his father, Alan; sisters Ashlyn, Megan, Chelsea, and Lauren; and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who treasured him.
A memorial service to celebrate A.J.’s life was held at Shadow Mountain Mortuary in Phoenix. Though he passed far too young, the memory of his smile, his love of the outdoors, and the devotion he showed his family remain. He is missed and held in many hearts, never forgotten.
