Thomas Lockett

Thomas “Lockett” Lockett, born August 31, 1959, in El Dorado, Arkansas, passed away at his family home on May 2, 2023. Those who knew him remember a gentle man with a ready smile and a calm presence — someone who valued family, friendship, and steady work.

A graduate of El Dorado High School, Thomas spent much of his working life in the region. He was employed for many years at Pilgrim Pride and later at Garrette Furniture. In the later part of his career he moved to Texarkana and worked at Cooper Tire until his retirement in 2021. Workmates and neighbors often knew him simply as “Lockett” or by his childhood nickname among his 1st Street friends, “Barkays.”

Thomas was a family-centered man who took pride in his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters LaBreshia Lockett Hicks and LaKeisha Burris; his sons Rafael Lockett and Devareo Hill; his brother David Lockett; and a loving extended family including grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, T.C. Williams and Evorn Lockett, and siblings Dan, Van, and Florence Lockett.

Friends and family recall Thomas for his quiet humor, his bright smile, and a warmth that came through in everyday moments — neighborhood visits, shared meals, and time spent with those closest to him. His life reflected the steady care of a man who placed family at the center of his days and who will be remembered most for the small acts that made him a steady presence in others’ lives.

A celebration of his life was held at St. James Baptist Church in El Dorado on May 12, 2023. In honoring Thomas’s memory, loved ones remember not only the years he lived but the ways he showed up for family and friends — a reminder of the ordinary kindness that can leave a lasting impression. Those wishing to leave condolences or plant a memorial tree were invited to do so through the family’s mortuary.
