Obituary

A formal remembrance

Selena "Binka" Quezada (Feb. 20, 2005 – June 17, 2021) was a cherished daughter, sister, and student whose warmth and energy touched family and friends. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Selena grew up attending Morton schools — Morton Elementary, Morton Jr. High and Morton High School — and is remembered for the bright spirit she brought to everyday moments. She later moved to Lubbock with her family while continuing her schooling.

Selena was the beloved child of Maria (Reyes) and Christopher Quezada. She is survived by sisters Veronica and Kriszya Quezada; brothers Jerome, Christian and Chrishawn Quezada; her paternal grandmother Ruthie Grisby; and an extended circle of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who celebrated her life. Family was at the center of Selena’s world, and those who knew her remember a young woman who loved being with loved ones and who carried a joyful presence into every room.

The family honored Selena’s memory with a Celebration of Life at First Baptist Church in Morton, Texas, on June 25, 2021, followed by interment at Morton Cemetery. Visitation was held at Griffin Mortuary in Lubbock prior to the service. In the weeks since her passing, relatives and friends gathered to share stories, music and remembrance, keeping alive the laughter and kindness Selena offered in life.

Selena’s life, though tragically brief, left a lasting imprint on her family and community. Those who loved her continue to remember her smile, the warmth she offered to others, and the simple everyday moments she made brighter. Her memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew her and in the many small acts of care and remembrance shared by her community.
