Ryan W Thornton

Ryan William Thornton (June 30, 1986 – April 23, 2017) was a devoted father and a skilled, hardworking man who loved his family and community. Born and raised in Chicago, Ryan grew up in a close-knit household and found faith early in life. He attended St. Gelasius and Bret Harte elementary schools, went on to Kenwood High School, and later took college courses at Harold Washington City College.

Ryan was known for his steady work ethic and hands-on skill. He worked alongside his father in the family HVAC business (Thornton & Sons), and also held jobs as an airport transporter and at a window manufacturing firm. Colleagues and family remember him as someone who took pride in arriving early and doing tasks well — someone comfortable working with his hands and taking responsibility.

Above all else, Ryan treasured time with his children. Family was central to his life: he is survived by four children — Antwan Thornton, Ryan Thornton, Bryan Thornton, and Kali Thornton — and by his parents, Delores Farabee Thornton and Arnaz Thornton. He also leaves grandparents, siblings, and a wide circle of relatives and friends who recall his warmth and the importance he placed on being with those he loved.

Services were arranged through Cage Memorial Chapel in Chicago, where friends and family gathered to honor his life and memory. Those who knew Ryan remember a man whose faith, family devotion, and quiet reliability were the hallmarks of his days. Though his life was cut far too short, his care for his children and the steady presence he brought to work and family endure in the memories of those who loved him.
