Remembering Ronnie

A life held close in memory

Ronnie Charles Damon was born March 2, 1986, in Ocala, Florida, and spent his life close to the people and places he loved. A native of Marion County, Ronnie carried a steady sense of responsibility into his work and his relationships. He served the community as a corrections officer with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office from December 2007 until October 2014, rising to the rank of corporal before leaving to pursue new career goals.

Outside his public service, Ronnie is remembered most clearly in the lives of his family. He was a son to Gary and Sandy Damon, a brother to Carrie Damon Kelley and Sandra Lynn Damon, and a loving father to his daughter, Kaylin Marie Damon. Those who knew him recall a man who valued family, showed up when he was needed, and took pride in caring for the people closest to him.

A memorial service honoring Ronnie’s life was held on January 11, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Fort McCoy. Friends and family gathered to celebrate his life and to support one another in grief. In lieu of flowers, his obituary asked that donations be made to First Baptist Church of Fort McCoy or Hospice of Marion County, reflecting causes important to the family during a difficult time.

While his life was cut far too short, Ronnie’s memory endures in the stories his loved ones share and the small, steady ways he cared for those around him. His service to his community, his role as a father, and the affection of his family are the enduring legacies that those who loved him continue to hold.
