Robert Bob Stone

Robert “Bob” Stone, 64, of South Beloit, Illinois, passed away on June 10, 2018. Born January 18, 1954, in Beloit, Wisconsin, Bob was a lifelong member of the local community whose steady presence was felt in many corners of town. A graduate of South Beloit High School (class of 1972), Bob built a life centered on family, service and the simple pleasures of the outdoors.

Bob married Rebecca “Becky” Saladino on June 17, 1977; Becky predeceased him in 2015. He worked for many years as a service technician for Taylor Freezer and, after retiring in 2016, continued to stay active working at Macktown Golf Course in Rockton. Bob loved golfing and riding his motorcycle, pastimes that complemented his warm, down-to-earth manner and his enjoyment of spending time with friends and neighbors.

A committed volunteer, Bob served as a South Beloit volunteer firefighter in the 1970s and later as public safety commissioner for the Police and Fire division from 2003 until 2011. He was also a member of the South Beloit City Council and served as president of the South Beloit Businessmans Association. Bob’s involvement with community events—large and small—reflected his belief in civic responsibility and his desire to help keep South Beloit a close-knit place to live. He was also a proud member of Boardtracker Hog Chapter #3588.

Bob is remembered by his daughters Petrina (Manuel) Castellanos and Prima Guerrero; daughter-in-law Sherry Stone; grandchildren Calista, Christian, Cameron, Lucille and Rebekah; sisters Sandra Strasser and Paula Hundley; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lucille Stone, his wife Becky, and his son Vito.

A visitation in remembrance of Bob was held June 24, 2018, at Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home. Those who knew him recall a person who quietly gave his time and energy to his town and family. His dedication to community service and the warmth he showed to others leave a lasting legacy in South Beloit.
