Remembering Pierre
A life held close in memory
Pierre Loury was a 16-year-old young man from Chicago’s West Side whose life and loss touched family, friends, and his wider community. Those who spoke for him after his death described a teenager who cared for his family and hoped for more — family accounts say he aspired to attend college and pursued creative outlets, including making music under names posted on social media.
Pierre grew up in a neighborhood marked by both close family ties and the hardships many Chicago families face. In the days after his death, his mother, Tambrasha Hudson, and other relatives and friends remembered him as loving and helpful to his siblings. Hundreds gathered for services and vigils in his memory; a funeral service was held at JLM Abundant Life Center in April 2016. His family’s grief also led them to seek accountability through the courts, naming him in a wrongful-death lawsuit against the city.
Public records and reporting make clear that Pierre’s life cannot be reduced to headlines. He was a teenager with relationships, a presence in his neighborhood, and the ordinary hopes of many young people. Community members and activists rallied around his memory, holding vigils and calling for changes in police practices; his mother and aunt later became active in civic and advocacy efforts to honor him and other young people lost to violence.
While many public accounts focus on the events surrounding his death, what remains central to those who knew him is the person Pierre was to his family: a child of his community whose loss left a lasting void. This remembrance honors him as a real young man whose life mattered to his mother, siblings, extended family, and the many neighbors who gathered to mourn and remember him.
