Remembering Pfc.

A life held close in memory

Michael S. Pearson, a 22-year-old soldier from Bolingbrook, Illinois, brought warmth, music and a generous spirit to everyone who knew him. Born February 6, 1987, Michael grew up surrounded by family who remember a curious child who filled rooms with laughter and music. Taught guitar by his father at a young age, he developed a deep love of music that stayed with him through his teen years and into adulthood. He shared that love by teaching guitar to friends and family and by writing songs of his own.

A graduate of Bolingbrook High School, Michael pursued life with both creativity and discipline. He enjoyed martial arts as a hobby and was known in his community as someone who found a friend in everyone he met. Close to his nieces and nephews, he took pride in being an encouraging uncle and mentor, offering time, patience, and a playful spirit that brightened family gatherings.

Michael answered the call to serve and enlisted in the United States Army Engineer Corps in September 2008. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, where he trained with the determination and quiet dedication that characterized his approach to life. Michael’s family and friends remember him as a true patriot who loved people and whom people loved in return.

Funeral services were held with full military honors, and his memory has been honored through family remembrances and community condolences. In lieu of flowers, Michael’s family indicated plans to establish a music scholarship in his name, a fitting tribute that reflects his passion for music and his generous desire to teach others.

Michael’s life—his music, his mentorship of younger family members, and his loving relationships—remains the truest legacy. Those who knew him recall a young man with zest for life and a heart for others; his memory is cherished and kept alive by family, friends, and the community he loved.
