Nedzad Botonjic

Nedzad Botonjic grew up in Jacksonville after being born in Germany, and was known to those close to him as a young man with big dreams and a deep love of music. Friends and family remembered Nedzad as someone for whom music was central: he spent time creating CDs and rapping, and those who knew him described how passionately he pursued that interest.

He attended Englewood and Sandalwood high schools in Jacksonville and worked with friends at local jobs, including at McDonald’s, where coworkers became part of his daily life. Family members recalled his long-term hopes—to marry and have children one day—and more immediate ambitions to study law or to continue building his musical talents.

Nedzad was described by his girlfriend, Tonia Brown, and by his father, Rufad Botonjic, as caring and determined, a young man looking forward to a future he spoke of often. After his death, the community gathered for vigils and a funeral service at the Islamic Center of Northeast Florida, where family and friends honored his memory and the bright parts of a life cut far too short.

Although the public record focuses in part on the circumstances surrounding his death, those who knew Nedzad emphasize the person he was: a son with hopes, a partner who loved music, and a young man whose ambitions and human connections mattered to those around him. His family’s grief and the community’s remembrance speak to how real and valued his life was.
