Remembering Nathan
A life held close in memory
Nathan Cole “Nate” Smith Jr., born January 8, 1999, in Lompoc, California, passed from this life on January 19, 2022. Nate was the cherished only son of Cassaundra E. Smith and Nathan C. Smith Sr., and the third of four children. A military child, his early years took him from California to New York before the family made their home in Crowley, Texas.
Nate’s life was marked by a warm spirit and a generous heart. He embraced his faith at an early age and was an active member of Trinity Harvest Church in Hurst, Texas. Those who knew him remember a young man whose smile and personality lit up gatherings; family nicknames like “Little Nate” and “Hi Point” capture the affection he inspired among relatives and friends. Nate loved spending time with his nieces and nephews and was often at the center of family moments that brought laughter and closeness.
Athletics were an important part of Nate’s life. He played competitive basketball at St. Philip’s Community College in San Antonio and stayed connected to the game locally, sharing the court in a men’s league with his father. Beyond sports, Nate pursued music with passion and creativity—writing and recording his own rap songs, producing an album titled Second to None, and sharing tracks known to friends and fans such as “Fashitsho” and “Bloody Mary.” His music resonated with people across the Dallas–Fort Worth area and reflected a young artist’s voice and ambition.
A 2018 graduate of New Beginnings Christian Academy and an active member of the Crowley community, Nate is remembered for his loving presence, faith, and the many small, generous ways he showed care for others. The family has expressed deep appreciation for the outpouring of support from friends, church family, and the wider community during this difficult time.
Nate’s life, though far too brief, left meaningful impressions on those around him—through sport, song, family devotion, and his abiding faith. He is lovingly remembered and missed by his parents, siblings, extended family, and friends. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13
