Remembering Maurice
A life held close in memory
Maurice Lavon “Von” Ambrose (July 21, 1975 – November 3, 2018) is remembered for the large heart and bright spirit he brought to family gatherings and community life. Born in Chicago and raised for parts of his youth in Tchula, Mississippi, Maurice found faith as an adult and became an active member of Power House Church in Dayton. Those who knew him speak of a man who loved to laugh, could lift a room with his humor, and who put family first.
Von earned his GED while in Mississippi and carried with him a resilient spirit and a readiness to help others. He was a devoted father to his children — remembered tenderly by name in family notices — and a son and sibling who valued close family ties. His warmth and willingness to give — “he would literally give the shirt off his back” — were repeatedly noted by those who gathered to honor him.
He leaves behind his father, Maurice Ambrose of Chicago; brothers Timothy and Paul Ambrose; sisters Shenita Head and Sylvia Eziolisa; and grandchildren who carried on his legacy of family love. Visitation and a homegoing service were held in mid-November 2018 at House of Wheat Funeral Home, followed by interment at Jeffersonview Cemetery.
Maurice’s life is treasured in memories of his humor, his generosity, and the care he showed his children and family. Though his time was cut short, the kindness he offered and the laughter he shared continue to live on in those who loved him.
