Remembering Mark
A life held close in memory
Mark Anthony Evans, 16, of Gary, Indiana, is remembered for a bright and active life cut far too short. A proud junior at Westside Leadership Academy, Mark leaned into school life — playing on the football and baseball teams and sharing his musical side in the band. He found joy and purpose in working with his hands, whether helping friends with cars or offering haircuts, and he balanced those interests with a job supporting the Gary SouthShore RailCats baseball organization.
Mark’s family and friends recall a hardworking, helpful young man who took pride in contributing wherever he could. He was known for being present for teammates and classmates, and for carrying a quiet willingness to assist others that made him trusted and well-liked at school and in the neighborhood.
Funeral services were held at East Glen Park Church of Christ in Gary, with interment at Evergreen Memorial Park in Hobart. Those services brought together family, classmates and community members to celebrate Mark’s life and the parts of him that mattered most to those who knew him: his energy on the field, his musical participation, his practical skills, and his readiness to lend a hand.
Though Mark’s life was brief, the care he showed in everyday things — from working on cars to helping friends — left a lasting impression on his loved ones. He is remembered with affection by family and true friends, and by a community that mourned the loss of a young person with much promise and heart.
