Marion Wheaton

Marion Wheaton, 15, of Wichita, is remembered for the place he held in his family's life and the everyday moments that made him who he was. A sophomore at Wichita West High School, Marion was a young person surrounded by family who loved him — his mother, Shatara Gibbs; his father, Marion Wheaton, Sr.; siblings LaTajae Wheaton, Mannique Wheaton and Sandra Wheaton; and his grandparents Joyce Wheaton and Cletus Gibbs.

Friends and relatives recall Marion as a son and brother whose presence mattered in the small, meaningful ways of daily life: the laughter he shared with cousins, the easy companionship of schoolmates, and the family ties that gathered at holidays and home. For those who knew him, Marion was part of the fabric of a close-knit family and a local school community where he spent his days learning and growing.

A funeral service was held on November 16, 2019, and family and community members came together to honor Marion’s life. Those who cherished him carried forward memories of his smile, his place in family gatherings, and the simple kindnesses that marked his short life.
