Lauren Burk

Lauren A. Burk was a treasured 18-year-old freshman at Auburn University whose warm spirit touched family, classmates and sorority sisters. A native of Marietta, Georgia, Lauren had just begun her college journey when her life was cut short on March 4, 2008. She is remembered by loved ones as a bright, caring young woman who meant so much to her family and community.

In the days after her death, Auburn University and the Marietta community gathered to honor Lauren’s memory. A memorial service brought together classmates, faculty and friends to celebrate her life, and the university announced a scholarship and memorial contributions in her name to help preserve her legacy. Friends and family recall Lauren with affection for the person she was — a daughter, sister, student and friend whose presence lifted others.

Laurens’ family invited those who wished to honor her memory to contribute to charitable causes she and her family supported, including scholarship funds established in her name. Messages that followed her passing reflect the deep regard in which she was held: expressions of love, shared memories and prayers from classmates, neighbors and those who knew her in Georgia and at Auburn.

Though her time was far too short, Lauren’s life is remembered for the promise it held and the warmth she shared with those around her.
