Remembering Lamar
A life held close in memory
Lamar D. McNeil, 43, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on March 10, 2020. Born September 8, 1976 in Washington, D.C., Lamar lived a life centered on family, faith and music. He was the devoted husband of Josina McNeil and a loving son to Carolyn McNeil. Above all, he was a proud father to his children, who were the heart of his days.
A graduate of James B. Dudley High School in Greensboro, Lamar built a life that blended entrepreneurship with a deep appreciation for entertainment. Friends and family often remember the McNeil home as “Club McNeil,” a place where music, laughter and community came together. His curiosity and drive meant he pursued new skills and opportunities with determination, and he brought energy and creativity to both his business activities and his everyday life.
Lamar treasured time with family, and his warmth left a lasting impression on those closest to him—siblings, children, in-laws, nieces and nephews who recall his generosity and joyful presence. He is survived by his wife, Josina; his mother, Carolyn; his children Nikai, Lamar, Princeton and Berkeley; and an extended circle of relatives and friends who celebrate the kindness he showed them.
A public visitation and funeral service were arranged by Boston’s Mortuary in Charlotte and held in mid-March 2020. Those who knew Lamar remember him not for the manner of his passing but for the ways he nourished others with love, faith and music. His contributions to family life and the memories he helped create will remain with those who loved him.
