Remembering KTahna
A life held close in memory
KTahna Jordin “Jordin” Smith brought light to family and friends with a bright smile, a warm heart, and a love of dancing and singing. Daughter of Cynthia Coleman and Kevin Smith, Jordin was known in her circle as the life of gatherings—quick with a laugh, ready to lend comfort, and always aware of others’ feelings. Her mother remembered how Jordin would cry when she saw someone else crying, a simple but powerful sign of the empathy she carried daily.
At 15, Jordin already left an impression on many who knew her: playful, caring, and full of small joys that made ordinary moments feel special. Whether moving to music or checking on a friend, she showed a kindness beyond her years. Those who loved her recall a young person who delighted in bringing joy to others and who had an easy way of making those around her feel seen.
Family and friends gathered in the days after her death to celebrate Jordin’s life and to support one another. A public viewing and celebration of life were arranged by Harris Funeral Directors with services held at Greater Union Baptist Church in Denver. Loved ones held a vigil in Nome Park to honor her memory and to reflect on the promise of a life taken too soon.
In the wake of Jordin’s passing, her family expressed a desire to channel their grief toward positive community action; her mother has spoken about working with other parents and groups to address youth violence so that other families might be spared similar loss. Those who knew Jordin remember a bright, empathic girl whose presence warmed a room and whose care for others defined her.
Jordin’s memory lives on in the stories shared by family, the music and laughter she loved, and the small acts of kindness she offered freely. She will be remembered not only for the short life she lived, but for the tenderness and joy she brought to those around her.
