Kristopher Rashad Somerville

Kristopher Rashad “Kris” Somerville was a devoted father and a familiar, welcoming presence to those who knew him. Born in Indianapolis on February 24, 1989, Kris carried a deep sense of faith and family throughout his life. Those close to him remember a man whose laughter and approachable spirit put others at ease; he had a way of acknowledging people that made them feel seen.

Kris’s greatest joy was fatherhood. He is remembered with love by his sons, Armani Rashad Somerville and Kamari Raheem Somerville, who were the center of his world. Family meant everything to Kris: he was a cherished son to Donnise Smith and Frank Somerville, and a brother to Cordell Somerville, Tony Harris, and Richard. He kept close bonds with extended family and friends who counted on his steady, generous nature.

Raised in the fellowship of Love All People Ministries, Kris’s faith informed how he lived. Baptized as a child, he carried that spiritual foundation into adulthood, sharing compassion and encouragement with those around him. He had a reputation in his neighborhood for friendliness and for greeting people by name—an easy smile and handshake that became part of how friends and neighbors would identify him.

Affectionately nicknamed “The Governor” by his mother, Kris was known for his presence in the community and the small everyday gestures that mattered: a hug, a welcoming word, a hand extended in support. Those qualities — warmth, loyalty, and a willingness to connect — are the way his family and friends choose to remember him.

Funeral arrangements were made through Stuart Mortuary of Indianapolis. In the weeks since his passing, family members and community supporters have honored his memory by speaking of his love for his sons, his faith, and the kindness he offered to many. Though his life ended too soon, the love Kris gave to his family and the gentle, familiar way he moved through his neighborhood continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
