Katie Rose Fusco Pladl

Katie Rose Fusco Pladl, 20, will be remembered for the warmth she brought to family, friends, and her community. Born January 29, 1998, in Austin, Texas, Katie grew up surrounded by a family who celebrated her creativity and spirit. A 2016 graduate of Dover High School, she was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Church in Dover Plains and pursued her love of art as a self-employed freelance artist.

Katie had a natural gift for making beauty — whether practicing her drumming, working on visual art projects, or caring for animals. She had a special tenderness for cats and often reached out to help strays find safer places. Those close to her recall a young woman who pursued her passions with intensity and kindness, and who found deep meaning in caring for others.

Above all, Katie was a devoted mother to her infant son, Bennett Kieron Pladl, born September 1, 2017, who was described as the center of her world. Family was central to Katie’s life, and she is lovingly remembered by her mother, Kelly Anne Fusco; her sister, Nicole Anne Fusco and partner Hy Carrel; her grandmother, Lucille Marino Fusco; and extended family members who treasured her presence. Her family also mourned the loss of her adoptive father, Anthony Charles Fusco, who was deeply proud of Katie.

Calling hours to honor Katie, Anthony Fusco, and baby Bennett were held at Hufcut Funeral Home in Dover Plains, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Charles Borromeo Church, reflecting the family’s faith and the community’s support during a time of profound sorrow.

Katie’s bright creativity, her compassion for animals, and the love she showed her son are the threads that endure in memory. She is remembered not by the circumstances of her death, but by the gentleness, talent, and devotion she brought into the lives of those who loved her.
