Jillian Johnson

Jillian Johnson (d. July 23, 2015) brought warmth, creativity, and determination to Lafayette through her art, small businesses, and music. A 2004 graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Jillian became known locally for her vibrant visual work, for designing logos and apparel, and for helping shape the city’s cultural life.

She founded and ran neighborhood shops including Red Arrow Workshop and Parish Ink, places where community and craft met. Friends and customers remember her as a hands-on entrepreneur who loved making things and helping others present their ideas with care. Jillian also shared her voice and music as a member of the all-woman band The Figs and as a contributor to the local radio community; her performances and recordings carried a folksy, approachable spirit that endeared her to many.

Jillian’s commitment to Lafayette extended beyond commerce and performance. Her energy was visible in local projects to beautify neighborhoods and in collaborations with other artists and students. Colleagues and classmates at UL Lafayette recalled her leadership and the encouragement she gave younger creatives.

Her sudden passing on July 23, 2015, left a large circle of friends, neighbors, fellow artists, and patrons mourning the loss of a talented and generous presence. In remembering Jillian, the community honors not only her artistic gifts but the everyday kindness, creativity, and civic care she brought to Lafayette. Her work and the places she built remain a part of the city she loved.
