Remembering Jeffery
A life held close in memory
Jeffery Edward Minor Jr. (August 13, 1992 – August 24, 2015) brought energy and loyalty to everyone who knew him. Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, Jeffery grew up surrounded by family and friends who remember him for his ready smile, his commitment to those he loved, and the small everyday kindnesses he offered without fanfare.
A graduate of Dunbar High School, Jeffery kept close ties to his neighborhood and school friends. He enjoyed basketball from childhood—playing AAU ball, shooting threes that left him grinning, and joining pick-up games at Triangle View whenever he could. He followed the sport passionately and cheered for his favorite players and teams in their highs and lows.
Jeffery expressed himself through music as well as sport. Among friends he was known for rapping, frequently composing verses and recording with cousins, and he loved sharing those moments with people close to him. He took pride in steady work and responsibility; his regular employment at Frisch’s Big Boy demonstrated his commitment and reliability, traits coworkers and family noted about him.
Faith and community were part of Jeffery’s life. He was a member of Greater Damascus Baptist Church and found comfort and purpose there. Above all, his family ties defined him: he was a devoted son to Kimberly Hicks and Jeffery Minor Sr., a caring brother and cousin, and a loving uncle to his niece Ja'Brea Wallace, whom he affectionately called 'JJ.' Those who knew him recall his respect for elders, the way he looked out for others, and his gift for making ordinary gatherings brighter with humor and company.
Though his life was cut short on August 24, 2015, Jeffery’s memory endures in the laughter he shared, the games he loved, and the small acts of care that marked his days. His family and friends continue to honor his spirit and remember the warmth he brought into their lives.
