A life held close in memory
Jayrell Lamauriss Cox, 18, of Moss Point, Mississippi, passed away on September 21, 2023. Beloved son of Martina Cox and Ernest Travis, Jayrell was a young man whose life centered on family and the ties that bound him to his community.
Jayrell is survived by his mother, Martina Cox of Moss Point, and his father, Ernest Travis of Houston, Texas, along with his stepmother Andrea Travis. He was part of a large and caring extended family that included five sisters—Markeisha Anderson, Aerial Travis, Lakatriel Travis, Nizoria Thompson, and Karriauna Cox—and numerous brothers and step-siblings. Grandparents Howard Cox and Ernest Travis Sr. also survive him, as do many aunts, uncles, and cousins who remember his presence in family gatherings.
Those who loved Jayrell gathered to honor his memory at Southern Mississippi Funeral Services in Ocean Springs. A visitation was held followed by a service with family and friends sharing memories, support, and comfort. The family invited those who wished to send condolences or share remembrances to the funeral home’s guest book and to reach out through Southern Mississippi Funeral Services’ website.
While Jayrell’s life was short, the outpouring of love from family and friends reflected the place he held in the lives of those around him. In remembering Jayrell, his family celebrates the bonds he shared with them and the moments of laughter and closeness that defined his relationships. He is mourned and fondly remembered by those who knew him best.
