Jayla Riggs

Jayla Tamara Riggs (August 10, 2002 – December 30, 2017) was a lively and spirited young woman whose love of music, singing and dancing lit up every room. A student at Hillsboro Junior High School, Jayla was known to family and classmates for her bubbly personality, bright smile and the enthusiasm she brought to school activities, friends and home life. She enjoyed spending time with her siblings and often dreamed of one day seeing her name on the big screen.

Jayla was the youngest of four children and was raised by her devoted mother. Family was central to Jayla’s life; she cherished moments with relatives, close friends and the community that supported her. Those who knew her remember a caring girl who was full of energy, laughter and hopeful plans for the future.

Following her passing on December 30, 2017, loved ones gathered to celebrate Jayla’s life and the joy she brought to others. Her family arranged memorial services in Hillsboro where friends, classmates and neighbors shared memories of her warmth, talent and the bright spirit she carried. In the weeks after her death, the local school district offered counseling to students and staff affected by the loss, and the family received community support as they planned services to honor Jayla’s memory.

Jayla’s life, though brief, mattered deeply to those who knew her. Her love of music and dance, her hopeful dreams, and the moments of everyday brightness she shared with family remain as a lasting testament to the young woman she was. She is remembered with love by her mother, father, siblings, extended family and many friends. May her memory be a blessing to all who treasured her.
