Jana Harbin

Jana Kaye Harbin, 54, of Meridianville, Alabama, passed away September 6, 2017. Born May 23, 1963, in Huntsville, Jana dedicated much of her adult life to public service. After 25 years with the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office, she retired having earned the respect of colleagues and neighbors for her steady work ethic and quiet competence.

Jana was also an active participant in her local community through the Meridianville Volunteer Fire Department, where she had been involved since 2006. Those who knew her remember a person who cared for others, who took time for family, and who became, in the eyes of many, a comforting and familiar presence in town life.

She is survived by her son Chad Harbin and granddaughter Harper Harbin; her fiancé Huck Hornbuckle; her parents, Buck and Betty Buchanan; brothers Kent and David Buchanan; a stepdaughter, Shandy Hollander; and a wide circle of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Family and friends gathered to celebrate Jana’s life at Spry Funeral Home & Crematory in Huntsville, with interment at Valley View Memorial Gardens.

A memorial fund was established at Redstone Federal Credit Union in her name for those who wish to make a contribution in remembrance. Jana’s family and community remember her for the steady kindness she offered to others and for the everyday ways she made Meridianville feel like home.
