India "Semaj" Rice (July 8, 1993–May 12, 2021) was a devoted daughter, loving aunt and mother, beauty-enthusiast, and founder of the online boutique "30 Shades of Flyy," remembered for her warmth and generous spirit.
Remembering India
A life held close in memory
India “Semaj” Kynar Rice was born July 8, 1993, in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and brought her bright spirit to the Hickory community. A devoted daughter to Donnie and Lanora Pearson Evans, India cherished family above all. She was a proud mother to her daughter, Danielle Coote, and loved her companion, James Simpson, her devoted fur son.
India was known for her passion for beauty — always impeccably styled and quick with makeup tips and style ideas for friends and family. That love of beauty and style led her to create an online boutique, "30 Shades of Flyy," where she celebrated elegance and self-expression. Family and close friends also called her by several fond nicknames: "Semaj," a tribute to her beloved dog, as well as "Partner" and "Majstaks." Those who knew her remember a woman who loved the color purple, took pride in her cooking, and went out of her way to care for and protect those she loved.
As an aunt and friend, India gave generously of herself; she delighted in family gatherings and small everyday moments that built lasting memories. Her warmth, sense of style, and fierce loyalty to family left an impression on many who crossed her path. Though her life was taken far too soon, the moments she shared — her laughter, her creativity, and her devotion to family — remain with those who loved her.
A funeral service was held at Bass-Smith Funeral Home in Hickory. Donations in India’s memory were welcomed through the funeral home to assist her family. Her family and friends continue to remember her for the loving, giving person she was and the joy she brought into their lives.
