Henry “Mal” McAleenan Jr., born January 31, 1950, devoted much of his life to public service and to the people of South Florida. A career law-enforcement professional, he began with the Homestead Police Department and went on to serve with the Miami‑Dade Police Department for more than three decades. Colleagues remembered him as a dedicated and highly decorated officer whose courage and commitment earned him numerous awards and commendations.

Beyond his uniform, Henry was a proud father and grandfather who treasured family. Those closest to him recall a steady presence who valued honesty, duty, and the quieter joys of life with loved ones. He took seriously the responsibility of protecting his community and carried that same steadfastness into his role within his family.

Henry’s life included honors reflecting his service — recognition for valor and lifesaving efforts that marked a career defined by readiness to help others. His contributions to public safety left a lasting impression on fellow officers and community members alike.

He passed away March 6, 2016. Family members and friends have celebrated his commitment to service and the gentle, dependable character he brought to both work and home. Henry is survived by his daughter and grandson, who carry forward his memory and the values he stood for.

Services were arranged through Caballero Rivero Woodlawn South & Woodlawn Park Cemetery South in Miami. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy were shared by friends and colleagues who remembered him for his dedication to family and community.
