Remembering Gregorio
A life held close in memory
Gregorio Nathaniel “Nate” Mendieta IV (January 1, 1994 – October 20, 2024) is remembered as a warm, hardworking man who cherished his family above all. Nate’s quick sense of humor and generous spirit made him a beloved presence to relatives and friends; he took pleasure in spending time outdoors, cooking for loved ones, and wearing the boots he loved. He was known for helping others and for the steady, practical kindness he offered in everyday life.
Nate was a devoted husband to Jessica (Cavazos) Mendieta and a proud father to their three children, Elaynna, Emmery, and Eann. Family was at the center of Nate’s life — he enjoyed gatherings with his children and took joy in simple moments together. Those who knew him recall his warmth, his readiness to lend a hand, and the laughter he brought to family gatherings.
Born in Lubbock, Texas, to Gregorio Mendieta III and Antonia Lucero, Nate grew up close to family across the region. He is also remembered by his extended family, including his parents and step-parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews who mourn his loss and celebrate his life.
Services to honor Nate’s memory were arranged by Bartley Funeral Home with a visitation and funeral held in late October 2024. In the days following his passing, the community rallied to support his wife and children. While his family and friends grieve, they also hold to the everyday memories that reveal who Nate was: a generous, hardworking man whose love for his family and easy laugh left a lasting impression. He will be fondly remembered for the care he showed others and for the quiet, important ways he lived his life.
