Gavin Peck

Gavin E. Peck, D.V.M., born September 23, 1979, in Reno, Nevada, passed away on November 15, 2016, at the age of 37. A man of quiet devotion, Gavin found his calling caring for animals and serving the ranching community around Wilsall. He graduated from Darby Community Christian School and went on to study chemistry at Montana Tech before earning advanced training in entomology at Montana State University. Gavin later completed his veterinary education and became a practicing large‑animal veterinarian, co‑owning Sage Trail Veterinary Clinic beginning in 2009.

Gavin treasured his family above all. He and his wife, Jessie, raised three children — Joy, Faith and Cor — whom he counted as his greatest accomplishment. Friends and clients remember him for a gentle bedside manner with animals, patient kindness toward clients, and a personable way of connecting with people in town. He was comfortable outdoors, enjoying hiking and hunting as expressions of his deep respect for nature and the sustenance it provided for his family.

Deeply grounded in Christian faith, Gavin studied the Bible and drew strength from his beliefs. He valued relationships — with his children, his father Robert “Bob” Peck and family members, and the many neighbors and colleagues who came to rely on his expertise and compassion. Gavin is survived by his children; his father, Robert Peck and wife Luci; sister Jennifer Sherman and her husband Trevor; step‑sister Amber Birch and step‑brother Evan Van Sickle; grandparents Joan and Bud Peck; and a wide circle of relatives and friends.

Those who knew Gavin remember his tenderness, his steady commitment to animals and people, and the calm way he carried his faith into everyday life. He brought practical skill and quiet warmth to his work and treasured the simple rhythms of family and the outdoors. He is remembered with love and gratitude by those whose lives he touched.
